A Day In The Life – With Evangeline Sanchez

This week we’re taking a look at a day in the life of Evangeline (Angel) Sanchez. As the Director of Services for IHPS she manages two buildings: Solana in Deer Park and Village Green in Dundee. Part of her responsibilities are to enroll and educate clients about the services that IHPS has to offer. “I answer questions families may have along the way,” Angel explains. “Once services have started, I make visits to see how the care is and if there is any way I can make things better.”

Caring For All

Angel’s mindset of wanting to make things better is not only for the clients, but translates to how she interacts with her caregivers as well. “I stay in constant contact with the caregivers on the cases I oversee, in case they have any questions or would like to have some time off.” Making sure that both clients and employees are getting what they need and feeling like they can express themselves is important to what Angel feels is special to IHPS. As she states, IHPS is unique because, “We have an open and family like atmosphere…you’re not just an employee, you are a part of something bigger that is helping many more people who need the assistance. I come to work excited to see what my day will bring because is NEVER the same routine.”

Typical Work Day – In Her Own Words

I will generally be out the door by 7:30 am and at my building by 8:00 am. I always start off my days by doing care. Then I look at my desk to see if anything has been turned into me. I have families that leave me notes over the weekends with comments/concerns. From here, I “wing it”:

* I collect request off forms, invoices, and payments and drop them off to the main office.

* I attend events the buildings are having to make myself more apparent to possible clients.

* At times, schedules are not always ideal for my caregivers and when I notice their schedule starts to overlap, I will jump in and help my employees.

* I want the environment in the building to be stress free and show them I am willing to help. I am a CNA, so at times I will help/retrain caregivers on Hoyer Lifts or retrain on proper transferring techniques.

* I get different phone calls, or pulled aside by the building for emergency situations, or called to another building to sign people up for services.

Although I try to make a schedule for myself, rarely does it go that way!

Take Time For Yourself

While her daily work schedule may vary, Angel knows that prioritizing her time off helps to make sure she is investing in relationships that are the most important. “On the weekends, I dedicate it 100% to my family,” Angel says.  “I spend time with my grandparents, parents and sister…I also take care/ babysit my younger cousins…quite the riot.  Saturday nights I spend with my distant friends. Wednesday nights are the time I spend with my childhood friends.”

There is no perfect balance between work and home life, but being able to take time for yourself and enjoy outside relationships can often help you to be happier, more productive, and take pride in what you do at work. “What makes me proud to work with our company is that the jobs we do are selfless,” Angel adds. “We are caring for the elderly and smile the whole way through. We wholeheartedly care for our clients and co-workers. Although the job can be difficult at times, this job is rewarding in every aspect.”
